School Days

We all go to school.  But what does a typical day at school look like for you?  We want to "follow" you around for a day.  Tell us what type of classes do you have, when your school day begins,  what your lunch is like,  what your classrooms look like, etc.  Students will need to share their day school by September 29.

My Typical School Day at MMS (Maize Middle School)

            My school day starts with my first hour, Composition.  In Composition, we talk about language and writing. It’s like spelling and grammar. We do many writing activities, and take a test over what we learned that week every Friday.  I like Composition, but it’s not my favorite subject.

         Then I go to my second hour, Science.  We watch videos a lot, and we do study activities or read from the book.  I like Science because we almost never get homework, and if we do it is easy.  Right now in Science we are learning about the solar system.  We did an activity with the planets, and it was very educational but also fun.

         Next I go to my third hour, Social Studies.  Social Studies is very fun because every day is different.  Some days we watch a video or a power point, we do an activity in groups, we study with our worksheets, or we do any other fun activity that is planned. I love Social Studies because I love history.

         After that I go to my fourth hour, Performing Arts.  This class is one of my favorites.  It’s all about acting, singing, and dancing.  The other day, we had a dance instructor come and teach us a hip-hop dance.  We learned some tap dancing, and we also have to make up a dance that we are to perform soon.  This class is definitely one of my favorites.

         My next hour is PreAlgebra.  It is my math class.  I like this class because math is my best subject, but we sometimes get a lot of homework.  My teacher is very nice, and she helps us if we need it.  We do a lot of equations, and sometimes they are hard but that’s what teachers are for.  This class is a little difficult, but that’s what we are in school for, to learn.  I usually do good on my work which makes me proud.

         The next class I have is Literature.  This is probably my favorite class because my teacher is awesome, it’s actually advanced Literature, and we do a lot of in class work.  This class is basically Reading and Vocab.  We have to read a lot, but I like reading so it works out well.  This class makes me happy for the day.

         After that I have lunch.  I love lunch because we get a break to eat after the morning classes, and because we only have one more class after lunch.  We have to sit at a certain table, but I still get to sit by some of my friends.  Lunch is one of the highlights of my day.

         My last hour of the day is Physical Fitness.  I do not like this class.  We run laps, lift weights, do sprints, and do Pacer Tests.  We run a lap at least once every day.  If we don’t run fast enough, we have to do sprints which are like torture.  I usually get done on time, but other people can be very slow.  I am not good at weights, but I do well in the Pacer Tests. Pacer Tests are basically just running back and forth until you get tired.

         I have Encor which is a study hall where we can work on homework before going home.  Other than that my school day is finished. The next day, I do it all over again.

FILOMATA PRIMARY SCHOOL

We start school at eight o'clock. All lessons last forty-five minutes. After each lesson there is ten minutes break. We have from five to seven lessons a day. We don't have lunch but we have dinner at 12:00. When we finish our lessons we spend our free time in Extended Day where we play or do homework till our parents come. In the afternoon we can also go to extra-curriculum classes.

Students from 0 to 3 Grade have one teacher who teaches them all the subject except English, Music and R.E. But from the forth grade different teachers teaches different subject like Polish, Maths, Science, History, English, German, P.E., R.E., Art, I.C.T., Music, etc.

MAIZE MIDDLE SCHOOL 

My school day is very long, but very fun I have seven classes

and they all have nice teachers. My school days are the same every

day and I have the same classes too. We have school Monday-

Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and we get out early on

Wednesday so we only have school from 7:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

5^th Grade

Morning in Maple Hill

Students arrive at Maple Hill by riding the bus or riding in cars. Once they get to Maple Hill, they go to either breakfast or the common area. After they are done eating, they go into the common area and wait for their teacher to pick them up at 9:15. Every day they change the breakfast menu. After breakfast you go to special.

Special

We go to special from9:15 to 10:00.On Monday we have gym. I love gym! We play lots of games. For examples we played catch the flag, turtle tag, freeze tag, and Chocolate River. It is really fun but there are a lot of games that we have not played yet. On Tuesday we have music. We sing a lot of songs and we take some tests. We love to play our recorders - it is really fun. Everyone can’t wait to play the recorders. Wednesday we go to library.  People think the library is boring.  But a lot of people think library is fun. I love to pick out books I really like. So do other people. Thursday we have art - I really like art. We made a lady, we made lines, and we made a face. She does a lot of stuff with us, it is so fun. Friday we have gym, again. Even though we go to gym two times a week, it is still fun. Those are all the specials we have at Maple Hill.

 Reading

We start reading from 10:15 to 11:45. Sometimes we do groups. The groups we do are some people do reading and some go on the computers to complete a compass learning activity, a power point, or an internet scavenger hunt.  We read for 45 minutes then switch. If we are reading we would choose our book. We make sure it’s just right, easy, or challenging. The way we do that is by doing the 5 finger rule. The way you do that is if you read the first page. If you can’t figure out what a word is or what it means, you put a finger up. If you end up with five fingers it’s too hard. If you have no fingers up it’s too easy. If you have a three it’s just right. Those are the books you would read. If you were to finish a book during reading time, you would write in your reading response book. In your reading response book you would put it in your little log, and then write a letter to the teacher about your book and how you can relate to the character and lots more!  That’s a pretty typical reading period.  

Snack

During snack time we eat and drink whatever we brought or buy in class.  Mr.Tomasulo also lets us talk in class during snack time.  Our snack time lasts about 10-15 minutes from 11:45-12:00. Sometimes we do exercises to get the wiggles out.  Some people bring healthy snacks or chips.  The reason we have snack is because we have a late lunch at 1:45.

Math

We have math from 12:00 to 1:00. We begin the math lesson with a Problem of the Day. It is never the same. The following sentences are about what we did in math so far. We estimated, compared and ordered decimals. We did place value. We did adding and subtracting decimals. We just started multiplication. We use white boards and the smart board to learn more about math.JJAt the end of the lesson we get homework.L

Writing

Our writing period is from 1:00 to 1:45. Part of the time we are writing in our notebooks. Sometimes we go in groups where a few people are writing in their notebooks and a few are on the computers. Then you switch. There is group writing too were at least three to five kids can write about a topic. There is working pair were two people are working on a random topic that they have chosen. Also in the morning there is an opportunity to write or read -an independent write and then have a friend check it.

Lunch and Recess

We go to lunch at 1:45 to eat food and drink milk. Some of the foods include chicken, popcorn chicken, pizza, and grilled cheese. We also have a snack bar. Some people make lunch at home and bring it to school and eat. Our time for lunch and recess is 1:45 to 2:30. At recess we play outside or inside. At outdoor recess we play jump rope, basketball, and play on the playground. We have an old playground and a new big playground. The new playground is bigger and more shiny than the old playground. At indoor recess we play dominos, blocks, and we can talk. This is what we do at recess and lunch.  J 

Social Studies

We have social studies from 2:30-3:20. So far we’ve learned about the 7continents, the directions, the regions of the U.S., and New York state history. Bodies of water that are either in or border New York are Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, Lake Champlain, the Mohawk River, the Genesee River, the Niagara River, the Hudson River, and the Atlantic Ocean. This year we don’t have to take the NYS Social Studies test, but we still have to take the NYS ELA and Math exams. Later in the year we are going to learn about Canada and Mexico. 

Dismissal

During dismissal sometimes Mr.Tomasulo lets us have free time on the computer.  Since are school is so big (1,250 students) we have two dismissals.   Most people go on the bus, some students go to the YMCA, and other students go to the afternoon program.  Dismissal is at 3:30 pm.

Bay Harbor Elementary School

Do you want to know what we do in a school day? First, we wake up and get ready for school. Then we ride the bus to school. We hang up our supplies and take attendance. Next, we work on our morning work. Shortly after that, we say the Pledge of Allegiance and our Class Pledge. Then we go to our special classes like gym, music, art or library. When we come back from our special class, we have writing.  Then we have snack and read aloud. After snack, we do language arts. One of the things we do is read books to ourselves.  Then we have lunch and recess. When we come back from lunch, we finish language arts.  After that we have Science.  We go to recess next.  Then we have math for about an hour or so. Sadly after math we have to go home. But before we leave, we get our homework for the night and pack up.  That is our schedule for a typical day at Bay Harbor!

School days at Geelong High School

Each school day is different for us, and I didn’t know which day to do write about so I’m doing all the school days. Each day starts at 8:50am and ends at 3:10pm. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays our times for recess is 10:30 and ends at 11:00 and lunch is at 12:40 and finishes at 1:30 and it is a 6 period day. On Tuesday and Thursday our recess is at 10:15 and goes till 10:45. Lunch is at 12:55 till 1:45 and is a 7 period day.

An elective is when you break up from our normal class and go with other year 7’s to go do some activities. We do an activity for 5 weeks. The activities are. Cooking, Dance, Music, Drama, Metal, Art, Textiles and Ceramics. The activity I’m doing now is Drama.
